Soprano Ice: the universal solution to unwanted hair

Soprano Ice: the universal solution to unwanted hair

Since the mid-1990s, laser hair removal has been a hugely popular aesthetic treatment to reduce unwanted hair on the face and body and substantial improvements in technology have made it even more safer and effective, overcoming many of its early disadvantages. Now, an award-winning laser device has been launched that combines three wavelengths in one. The Soprano ICE Platinum uses trio clustered diode technology, meaning it can provide the most comprehensive and advanced laser hair removal treatment possible.

 All hair colours

Our skin, hair and eyes all contain a pigment called melanin that dictates their colour. Laser energy is attracted by the pigment and, traditionally, laser technology required a distinction between the pigment in the hair follicle and that of the skin to destroy the hair follicle without burning the surrounding tissue. Therefore, the patients best suited to laser hair removal were those with lighter skin and dark hair.

The Soprano ICE Platinum combines three different wavelengths, including the powerful 755nm wavelength that makes the device ideal for treating the widest range of hair colours, including lighter-coloured and thin hair, that have traditionally been more challenging to treat. The Soprano ICE Platinum Painless Laser Hair Removal treatment Cardiff

At the Specialist Skin Clinic, we are experienced in treating all different skin and hair types and we’re delighted to offer this device as it now provides an effective hair reduction solution for patients that previously would have been left with less than satisfactory results. This includes Asian patients, particularly those with finer facial hair that has been notoriously difficult to treat in the past with other laser technologies.

All skin types

Not all lasers are equal and it’s essential the right laser is used for your specific skin type to avoid complications. The Fitzpatrick Scale is the most commonly-used method of classifying skin types and there are six general classifications.

  •  Skin Type I – very fair or freckled, always burns and never tans.
  • Skin Type II – fair, usually burns and sometimes tans.
  • Skin Type III – fair to olive, sometimes burns and always tans.
  • Skin Type IV – olive to moderate brown, rarely burns.
  • Skin Type V – brown, very rarely burns and moderately pigmented.
  • Skin Type VI – very dark-skinned, highly pigmented.

In the past, the wrong laser used on darker-skinned patients would result in hyperpigmentation and scarring, but one of the wavelengths utilised by the Soprano ICE Platinum is the long-pulsed YAG laser. It can penetrate far deeper so is only absorbed by the pigment in the hair follicle rather than by the surrounding skin, meaning a safer, more effective treatment for darker skin types.

All year round

Previously, laser hair reduction required careful planning, as lasers weren’t effective on tanned skin. The Soprano Ice’s innovative technology means that you can start treatment at any time, rather than scheduling around your holidays or avoiding the sun during the summer months.
