Skin treatments before wedding

Skin treatments before your wedding

Skin treatments should be well planned before your wedding. Everyone wants to feel beautiful on their special day and your options now extend beyond a manicure or a new hairstyle. Whether you’re the mother of the groom, father of the bride, chief bridesmaid or the blushing bride herself, there is a wide range of aesthetic skin treatments before the wedding that can make you feel and look your best. However, it’s not just the flowers and venue you should be planning. Preparation is key so here’s your wedding cosmetic countdown:

  • 12 months or more before the wedding

Botox or dermal fillers are the most popular non-surgical aesthetic treatments available as there is minimal downtime and results are pretty much instantaneous, but that doesn’t mean you should book in for these procedures a scant month away from the biggest day of your life.

Injectable aesthetic treatments should be well-thought out and planned and it is best to have undergone a procedure at least once before. Botox typically lasts three to four months so you can have a follow-up treatment in the run up to the wedding when you know you’re happy with the outcome.

Temporary hyaluronic acid dermal fillers typically last nine to twelve months but there are newer fillers on the market such as Ellanse that can last for up to two years, so you can have your treatment well in advance of your big day. Our aim is always to produce a beautifully natural result so we advise patients to start with a very subtle enhancement.

  • 9 months before the wedding

Acne, pigmentation or redness can all be greatly improved by the use of a well-thought out skincare programme, combining prescription and non-prescription products. Results are not instantaneous so you have to commit at least nine months to a year before the big day.

Many of our brides – and grooms – aren’t just interested in having skin treatments before their wedding. A very popular procedure we offer is CoolSculpting for the reduction of localised areas of fat that do not respond to diet and exercise. CoolSculpting works by freezing the fat cells, without causing any damage to the skin or surrounding tissue.

Results aren’t instantaneous as the damaged fat cells are removed from the body over a period of time. In the months following your treatment, there will also be increased collagen production that will help to tighten and smooth the treated areas. Patients will typically start to see an improvement in the first month, but full results will take three to four months and we assess patients three months after their CoolSculpting treatment to ensure results are as expected.

  • 6 months before the wedding

Laser skin rejuvenation can greatly improve the appearance of sun damage, fine lines and wrinkles and poor skin tone. Laser energy is delivered into the dermis, triggering the body’s natural healing process and stimulating collagen production, so although you should be able to see an improvement in your skin condition almost immediately, results will continue to improve over time.

Microneedling is a skin rejuvenation treatment that uses the body’s own natural healing process to reveal beautifully clear skin. The dermaroller is passed over the skin, creating hundreds of micro injuries to the skin, stimulating the production of collagen and elastin to repair the wound. It is one of our most requested skin treatments before wedding because it can improve uneven skin texture, reduce large pores, soften lines and wrinkles and brighten dull skin, achieving a glowing complexion with little downtime or risk of complications.

  • 3 months before the wedding

A chemical peel works in a similar way to microdermabrasion, tackling dull, congested skin by encouraging cell turnover. The best results are obtained from a course of chemical peels, usually at least three treatments done six weeks apart.

If only one chemical peel is being done, then we advise patients that they should be performed at least six weeks before a big event. Depending on the strength of the peel, there will be a degree of redness and the skin can peel or appear dry afterwards. So you want to leave at least six weeks for your complexion to settle down and to see the full results.

Pigmentation, age spots and freckles can all be greatly improved with an ND-YAG laser treatment that targets melanin in the skin.

  • 1 month to go before the wedding

Many brides – and grooms – experience wedding day nerves, but now you don’t have to worry about revealing this to your guests. At the Specialist Skin Clinic, we can use Botox to reduce excessive sweating and also offer MiraDry, an innovative procedure which can provide a permanent solution.

  • And, finally, practitioner choice is all important before your wedding

A skilled and experienced practitioner is a must, but make sure they share your opinion on what constitutes a beautiful and natural enhancement. It can really help to have a clear idea of what you would like to improve about your appearance in advance of your initial consultation so you do not get talked into treatments you don’t want, need or won’t deliver the results in time for your big day. If you’re unhappy with your bridal make-up then you can just wipe it off and start again, but an aesthetic procedure is not something to just ‘squeeze in’.

At the Specialist Skin Clinic, we take into account your needs, expectations, budget and timescale to offer expert, impartial advice on which procedures or products are appropriate.
