INDIVIDUAL TREATMENT FOR YOUR SKIN
A survey (rosacea treatment) carried out in America last year found that nearly one quarter of rosacea sufferers turn to make-up to cover up the problem, rather than seek treatment. The same survey found that almost half of sufferers thought that their problem was acne, not rosacea, before they had it professionally diagnosed.
What is rosacea?
Rosacea is a common skin condition where the blood vessels in the face become enlarged, causing a flushed appearance, usually around the nose and cheeks. It can cause a stinging and burning sensation in the affected area, as well as redness.
Rosacea is a relapsing condition, which means it will often get better for a while and then come back. We see many patients for rosacea treatment in Cardiff at the Specialist Skin Clinic, who thought their problem had gone away and thus were doubly dismayed when it returned a few months later.
When you have a condition that is visible on your face, the temptation is to slap on the make-up to camouflage it. The problem with doing this, where rosacea is concerned, is that cosmetics can actually make the condition worse. If you’re suffering from rosacea then you should avoid any make-up that contains ingredients such as alcohol, menthol, witch hazel, clove oil, eucalyptus oil, salicylic acid or glycolic acid. Ditch products that contain oil and fragrances – mineral products are often the best choice.
What’s wrong with covering up rosacea?
If you think you might be suffering from rosacea, the best thing to do is to visit a skin specialist, to find out what treatments are available.
What treatment options are available for rosacea?
Here at the Specialist Skin Clinic, we offer a number of different treatments for rosacea in our Cardiff clinic. The rosacea treatment that is best for you will depend on a number of factors, most notably the severity of your rosacea.
When you come in for a rosacea consultation with one of our experts, your skin will be fully assessed and you will be advised on the best treatment plan for you. This could be a laser or intense-pulsed-light (IPL) based treatment. The treatment itself will be performed by one of our experts and supervised by Dr Maria Gonzalez.
So if you’ve got rosacea and are suffering in silence, chuck the concealer in the bin and make an appointment with Specialist Skin Clinic Cardiff to have your rosacea treated today.
