INDIVIDUAL TREATMENT FOR YOUR SKIN

Pigmentation Wedding Planner 9 months left

Pigmentary problems are a common skin concern and can affect you at any age, whether you’re the bride, groom or even mother of the bride. Changes in our pigment can result in dark patches or spots appearing on the face and body; the good news is that it is harmless, but the bad news is that it can be a very distressing and visible skin condition.

Pigmentation Wedding Planner: Hyperpigmentation, which is where spots, patches or certain areas of your skin become markedly darker than the rest of your face or body, can present as freckles, age spots or melasma. They are the result of an increase in melanin, the pigment that colours your skin, hair or eyes. They can be genetic, caused by sun damage, trauma, inflammation or the result of hormonal changes.

  • What are my treatment options for pigment problems?

At the Specialist Skin Clinic, based in Cardiff and London, we can treat pigment changes with prescription creams that combine hydroquinone with retinol to encourage the shedding of pigmented cells. Chemical peels which stimulate cell turnover can also be useful for treating mild skin discolouration.

We also offer both lasers and Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) technology to treat skin pigmentation. The darker pigment attracts the light energy emitted by these devices which then safely and gently breaks up the pigment without damaging the rest of your skin.

It is essential to choose a skin expert, as a change in skin pigment can be a sign of a more worrying skin change, particularly those caused by sun damage. Our medical director Dr Maria Gonzalez is a consultant dermatologist who provides both cosmetic and medical dermatology services.

  • Why should I choose a skin expert to treat hyperpigmentation?

At the Specialist Skin Clinic, we see many Asian brides wanting to achieve the highly prized flawless skin and clear complexion for their wedding day.

Asian skin is more prone to pigment problems and the naturally higher levels of hydration reveal any unevenness in skin tone. It is essential that you choose a skin expert that is experienced in treating Asian skin as some lasers are not suitable for darker skin tones and IPL should also be approached with caution to avoid unwanted colour changes such as over-lightening the treated area.
